Forsyth Township Police are looking for the public’s help in the search for a missing Sawyer man.  In a statement released earlier today, police say they are looking for 69-year-old Alfred Frank Ongie.  He is also known as “Butch” and is described as a white male, 5-feet-10 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds with graying dark hair.  He was last seen at his residence at Sawyer on June 1-st.  Police say they believe he may be missing voluntarily, but they would like to track him down.  If you have any information as to the man’s location, please call Forsyth Township Police at 346-9224.

Marquette County Emergency Management officials and Sawyer International Airport rescue crews are conducting an emergency response exercise tomorrow morning.  The exercise will be held from approximately 10-am to noon at the Sawyer airport terminal.  The exercise will consist of the emergency response agencies showing how they would respond to an actual emergency at the facility.  The training will include the simulation of a plane crash at the airport.  Officials say area residents may see clouds of green smoke rising from the airport during the training and they are encouraging folks to not overreact to the sight.

The entire Duck Lake Fire area in Luce County reopened to all property owners last night.  The Department of Natural Resources says property owners will be required to check in at the M-123 and County Road 500 checkpoint for a placard that must be displayed at all times.  All roads and trails will be reopened to non-residents on Monday at 10 A.M.  The areas of Pike Lake, Culhane Lake, Bodi Lake and Little Lake Harbor were previously open only to residents who reside within the area. This opening permits all landowners into the area.

The D-N-R says 89 percent of the Duck Lake Fire is under control with the overall size of the fire at 21,112 acres.  A total of 136 structures have been lost to the fire, including 49 homes and cabins, a store and a motel.  No major injuries or any fatalities have been reported.  The blaze which was triggered by a lightning strike was first detected on May 24th.  D-N-R officials say the duck lake fire is the third largest wildfire in Michigan history, behind the 25,000 acre Mack Lake fire in 1980 and the 72,000 acre Seney Fire in 1976.

If fishing is your thing, this is the weekend to do it.  This Saturday and Sunday the state is holding its annual Free Fishing Weekend.  The Department of Natural Resources says Michigan residents and non-residents will be allowed to fish without a license Saturday and Sunday. All other fishing regulations will still apply.  Michigan has had a free fishing weekend every year since 1986.  Numerous free fishing weekend activities are scheduled at state parks and fish hatcheries, while sporting clubs and conservation groups stage events as well.  A complete list can be found on the D-N-R website at www.michigan.gov/freefishing.
