Negaunee, Michigan – February 21, 2019 – My son Holden and the rest of his first grade class at Lakeview Elementary had a field trip to the Negaunee Ice Arena yesterday!
I went as a parent volunteer, and it was a ton of fun!
The best part, for me at least, was watching Holden interact with his friends.
Seeing his kindness in action with others warmed my heart, and he made me so proud!
Since he’s in hockey and can skate very well, he was skating circles around the rink.
But he stopped often to help a friend up, show them how to get up easier, how to fall and not be afraid, and how to move forward – he even taught one of his friends how to skate backwards!
It was so emotional for me, seeing him so grown up and being so kind and helpful to others. I had tears in my eyes!
In that moment I knew even though he can be a little stinker at times, when he’s out in the world without me, he’s okay. He’s good. And he’s kind.
That’s really all a mother can truly ask for.
