Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Former Senate Democratic Leader and Ingham County Prosecutor Gretchen Whitmer visited the eastern U.P. today to launch her petition signature gathering campaign to qualify for the 2018 ballot in the race for Governor.

Whitmer called in earlier in the day to the SUNNY Morning Show with Walt & Mike from Sault Ste. Marie to talk about the effort.

She also talked about key issues including the need for a new large lock in the Soo Locks system and her thoughts on the controversial Enbridge Line 5 pipeline in the Straits of Mackinac.

In order to qualify for the ballot, candidates must submit to the Board of Elections at least 15,000 valid signatures.

In the coming months, Whitmer’s campaign volunteers will spread out across the state to collect signatures in order to qualify for the ballot.
