Marquette,MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A bill by State Senator Tom Casperson connecting the Upper and Lower Peninsulas to the same electrical grid has been submitted in Lansing.
The Escanaba Republican called in to the SUNNY Morning Show with Walt & Mike today to discuss the proposed legislation.
Casperson says the measure addresses a concern that, with only one major power plant, most U.P. residents rely on electricity from Wisconsin and the bill calls for construction of electric infrastructure connecting the peninsulas to the same electric grid.
He says the bill would create a state board would be appointed by the Governor to select a developer to construct the project through bids while the siting of the project would require approval by the Michigan Public Service Commission and analysis by Midcontinent Independent System Operators.
Cost of the project would be shared among all state ratepayers.
