Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The City of Marquette and the Marquette Downtown Development Authority are gearing up for the annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop this weekend.

Detective Captain Mike Kohler from the Marquette Police Department joined the SUNNY Morning Show with Walt & Mike today to talk about changes in this year’s festivities and what those who attend the event need to keep in mind.

Kohler said the main change is the location of the ball drop from the previous location off of the Old Bank Building at the intersection of Washington and Front to the center of the 100 block of Washington off of the Masonic Building.

He added there are also some rules to follow concerning use of alcohol that apply and both motorists and pedestrians in the downtown will have to be careful in the area.

On Saturday, Dec. 31st, from 11 p.m. until 1 a.m. on Jan. 1, Washington Street will be closed between Front Street and Third Street for the Ball Drop.
