Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The recent collaboration of arts and tourism groups created a successful opportunity for Upper Michigan art to be seen on an international stage at the annual ArtPrize event in downstate Grand Rapids.

Tiina Harris, Arts & Culture Manager with the City of Marquette, and Pasqua Warstler, Artistic Director of the Bonifas Arts Center in Escanaba joined the Sunny Morning Show with Walt & Mike today to share an update on the effort.

Warstler said The Bonifas Arts Center, the City of Marquette, the Michigan Council for the Arts & Cultural Affairs, and U.P. Travel and Recreation assisted a total of 51 U.P. artists who presented in ArtPrize this year.

Harris said the event gave Upper Peninsula artists access to prime audiences for cultural tourism by highlighting arts and culture.

Warstler added that anyone who didn’t make it to Grand Rapids can view their work at the “U.P. Premiere” exhibit Oct. 15 to Nov. 2 at the Bonifas Arts Center gallery in Escanaba.

In addition, all residents are invited to a free “welcome home” reception Oct. 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Bonifas.
