Annual ArtPrize Event In Grand Rapids To Specially Feature U.P. Artists

    Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A collaboration of arts and tourism groups have created an opportunity for Upper Michigan art to be seen on an international stage.

    Tiina Harris, Arts & Culture Manager with the City of Marquette, and Pasqua Warstler, Artistic Director of the Bonifas Arts Center in Escanaba joined the Sunny Morning Show with Walt & Mike today to talk about the effort.

    They shared information about artists from the region selected for the UP Pavilion, a display space exclusively designated for Upper Peninsula artists at the annual ArtPrize competition and show in downstate Grand Rapids.

    Warstler said The Bonifas Arts Center, the City of Marquette, the Michigan Council for the Arts & Cultural Affairs, and U.P. Travel and Recreation have assisted a total of 51 U.P. artists who will be presenting in ArtPrize this year.

    Harris added that this is a significant opportunity, not only for artists, but for the entire Upper Peninsula to gain access to prime audiences for cultural tourism and, to improve tourism by highlighting arts and culture.
