Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The National Geographic Adventurers of the Year are in Marquette as part of their effort to paddle from the Boundary Waters of Minnesota to Washington, D.C.
Dave and Amy Freeman stopped in this morning on the SUNNY Morning Show with Walt & Mike to talk about their journey so far and what it’s all about.
According to the Freemans, who are from the Boundary Waters area of Minnesota, the trip is to raise awareness about the dangers of sulfide mining on the Boundary Waters and Lake Superior watershed.
They are making the journey via canoe and sailboat and are in Marquette to spread the word about their trip.
People who wish to sign a petition to take to Washington will be able to as they pass through communities along the lake.
Interested parties can also sign the canoe, which will be presented to lawmakers at the Capitol at the end of the sojourn.
