Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – (The following penned by Jim Parks) – 62-year-old Craig ‘Buck’ Buchanan of Marquette went home to the big Guts Tournament in the sky this week.

For those of us who knew him, his tireless advocacy, promotion, and development of Disc Sports programs in Marquette is legendary.

He was always friendly, helpful, and encouraging.

Buck’s enthusiasm for disc sports spans decades…from his early playing years all the way through to his grand vision of bringing National Guts Tournaments back to Marquette, developing Marquette’s first ‘official’ Disc Golf Course, and establishing Marquette as a Frisbee Sanctuary.

Back in the day, Buck’s Guts Frisbee Teams won the 1995 IFT, 3 US Nationals, and the WFDF World Guts Championship in Japan in 1992.

Buck was inducted into USA Guts Frisbee Hall of Fame at the 47th International Frisbee Tournament in 2005.

With his untimely passing, there remains an opportunity for the Marquette Community to fulfill another of Buck’s dream goals.

Over the past year or so, Buck had been lobbying to have the World Ultimate Frisbee Championships in Marquette.

In his honor and for his eternal SISU spirit, I, for one, hope this becomes a reality. That, to me, would be a perfect memorial for such a kind, generous, inspirational, and motivational man.

RIP big guy. I will miss your wisdom, sarcasm, and exquisite sense of humor.

LISTEN IN – A special remembrance of Buck with highlights from a Great Lakes Radio interview about the return of guts frisbee to the Marquette area in 2009.  Buck, in his own words, talks about the sport.  You can hear the passion in his voice.

    3. Thanks for the article…I was just telling my kids about Buck the day before I learned of his passing. I played a little guts frisbee with him in the 70s and he was a great teacher and so passionate about the sport.
He was an anchor for all of us who have left Marquette…and will be missed.
