Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – 109th District State Representative John Kivela joined the SUNNY Morning Show with Walt & Mike today to give a legislative update.
Representative Kivela first discussed his proposed “Dark Store” legislation that he is sponsoring. The “Dark Store” loophole has generally allowed large big box stores to have much lower property tax assessments, but now smaller businesses like chain restaurants are using the loophole. This not only negatively effects local governments, but it harms everyone in the community.
The second topic discussed on the show today was Kivela’s proposed four-part meth-lab legislation. This set of legislation would focus on stopping the meth makers from being able to obtain precursor chemicals like pseudo-ephedrine and would target “smurfs”, or individuals who purchase the precursor chemicals and give them to meth makers.
