Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – 109th District State Representative John Kivela is hosting the Michigan House Democrats’ Education Task Force in Marquette today.

The task force will be holding its fifth in a series of statewide meetings at 11 a.m. today at Marquette City Hall at the City Commission Chambers.

Representative Kivela and Task Force Co-Chair Representative Brandon Dillon joined The SUNNY Morning Show with Walt & Mike to discuss the meeting and what they are looking to accomplish.

According to Dillon, the group is made up of several Democratic House members from around the state who investigate education reform measures undertaken in other states, evaluate their success and determine whether those solutions could be implemented in Michigan.

Kivela says the Task Force will be taking testimony from Lake Superior State University President Anthony McLain at today’s session.

He will discuss his experience in public education as a school superintendent and from the perspective of how education policy impacts rural and isolated school districts.

The meeting is open to the public and runs until 1:00 p.m.
