The MAB Broadcast Excellence Awards program is Michigan’s premiere broadcasting competition and awards show. GLR competed with radio and television stations from across the state against a standard of excellence in various categories designed to showcase the best materials that Michigan broadcasters have to offer.

WKQS-FM received two ‘Best In Category’ awards and two ‘Merit’ awards. Best In Category awards were for ‘Investigative Reporting’; Meth In Marquette County with Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Cheryl Hill, and ‘Feature Reporting’; Eric Dompierre/Right To Work Debate. ‘Merit’ awards were garnered for: ‘Regularly Scheduled Weekend Personality or Team’; a piece produced by Dan Adamini on Wild Boars, and ‘New Media – 2012’; Best Use of New Media.

“I’m delighted to see that our hard work is recognized by our professional peers in Lansing,” said GLR President Todd Noordyk. WKQS-FM, Sunny 101.9 is the only radio station in the north-central Upper Peninsula to receive state recognition. Noordyk says, “Our listeners and web fans, along with our civic, political, and business leaders know how hard we work to stay connected to our communities; how hard we work to really make a difference in people’s lives. To have the MAB honor us with 4 Broadcast Excellence Awards is a very proud moment for all of us.”
