Maize and Blue Fills at the Stands at The First Annual Negaunee Tailgate Party

Marquette, MI  –  September 15, 2017  –  Cars lined streets as I pulled up to the Negaunee High School Football Field this evening for the Miners Tailgate Party. With all donations from tonight’s event going to the Negaunee Booster Club, the First Annual Tailgate Party was quite the hit.

Despite the rough season our Miners have had so far, guests dressed in maize and blue filled the parking lot in support of the team. Kids ran around in the open field behind the stadium tossing a football and while others played rounds of bean bag toss and tire races. The smell of hot dogs on the grill traveled through the air as I walked under the Honor Credit Union inflatable. Tables were set up in the lot where guests could pick up free prizes like mini foam fingers from Honor Credit Union and metal water bottles from Fox Negaunee.

Stopping for a hot dog and pop from the concessions stand I made my way over to the Fox Negaunee set up to check out the shiny new black Chevy Silverado that was up for grabs. As people passed the truck the filled out a slip and dropped it in the box, which was already stuffed half full!

Wrapping up around 6:30p, people moved to the stands to get ready for football game. The evening was also dedicated to our sports parents.  Before the game, each player from the varsity football team, the cheerleaders, and their families were announced on the track. Voices of the Negaunee Miners, Mark Evans and Gregg Nelson took over the press box above the bleachers to start the Miners Pre-game Show on Sunny.FM 101.9. Giving a recap of Negaunee’s season so far, Mark and Gregg wished the boys well in their battle against the Iron Mountain Mountaineers tonight.  And well they did! The Negaunee Miners defeated the Mountaineers 35 to 0 finding the drive they had been missing in the season thus far.

After a strong display of defense against Iron Mountain in the first half of the game, a quick half time break gave four lucky people a shot at winning the Silverado from Fox Negaunee, including Sunny.FM’s very own, Gregg Nelson! The four contestants took their place on the 25 yard line and chucked a football has hard as they could, aiming for the truck’s open window. Despite everyone’s best efforts, no one left with a set of keys to the Silverado, but all the Miners fans still left happy!

The Negaunee Miners will be on the road for the next two weeks playing at Gwinn High School next Friday, September 22. Sunny.FM 101.9 will be carrying the game starting with the pre-game show at 6:30pm. Kick off will be at 7 and you can hear the entire broadcast on air or by streaming it from your computer or smartphone.
