Negaunee, Michigan– 03/07/2018– The Negaunee Miners stayed home to take on the Westwood Patriots in this District game. The Miners came into this game with a 8-11 on the season while the Patriots were 10-9. Jesse Anderson and Brady Guilbault brought you all of the action on Sunny FM.
The Westwood Patriots won the tip-off to start the game. The first quarter, the two teams were neck-in-neck. The Patriots did hold the lead over the Miners in the first and 11-7 was the score at the end of the first. The second quarter almost mirrored the first but Jakson Sager had an awesome last shot for the Miners to bring the score to a three point deficit for the Miners, 18-15 at the half.
The Patriots controlled the third quarter and held the lead over the Miners. 36-26 was the score at the end of the third as the Miners trailed the Patriots. In the fourth, the two teams both went into the double-bonus. Unfortunately for the Miners, the Patriots would not shake and after a long fought battle, the Miners were defeated 51-39. “Not for lack of trying…”- Coach Waterman. The Negaunee Miners seniors will be greatly missed but they will move onto better things. The sophomores will be amazing for next year Miners action!

STATS: The leading scorers in the game all had 14 points. From Westwood, the top scorers were Nathan Beckman and David Delarye. The leading scorer from Negaunee was Jason Waterman with his 14 points, and 4 rebounds. Following closely behind him for the Miners was Jacob Ennett with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist. Jakson Sager scored 10 points on this game with 2 rebounds and 1 assist. Drew Lindburg scored himself 2 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist. To round off the scoring for the Miners, Luke Mattson scored 1 point and had 1 steal on the night.
