Manistique, Michigan 01/26/2018– The Negaunee Miners Boys basketball team traveled to Manistique this Friday night to take on the Emeralds. The Miners were 4-7 coming into this game while the Emeralds were 2-10. Drew Lindburg, of Negaunee, had to sit this game out because of the elbow to the face from the last game- feel better Drew. Unfortunately for Manistique, they only had five players for the whole game due to injuries and illness. Brady Guilbault had all of the action for you on Sunny FM.

Manistique won the tip-off to start off the game. Right after that, the Emeralds were fouled on a play so they went to the line to shoot two free-throws, making one and taking the lead. Jason Waterman, Miner, answered back with nothing but net. The Miners played great through out the first quarter, barely missing any shots. Towards the end of the first quarter, Jackson Sager had a quick 2 steals and 4 points for Negaunee back to back. 24-11 was the score at the end of one as the Miners led the Emeralds. In the second quarter, the ball started off in Negaunee’s possession after getting a turnover just before the quarter started. Jason Waterman extended the lead right away 26-11 for the Miners. Towards the end of the quarter, Negaunee was in the double bonus from Manistique’s 10 fouls but the Miners didn’t score any more points for the quarter. Nick Smith, Emerald, had a nice lay up just before the end to make the score at the end of two 44-13 (Miners led the Emeralds).

Jake Ennett, Jason Waterman, Jackson Sager, and Luke Mattson were the scorers for the Miners in the third. 59-20, the Miners led the Emeralds at the end of three. To start off the fourth quarter, there was a running clock. Tyler Hinstala and Travis Nelson, of Negaunee, did a great job in the fourth for the Miners. Unfortunately for the Emeralds, one of their players had fouled out and left them with just four players with about three minutes left in the game. Travis Nelson had two 3 pointers back to back! After Tyler Hinstala made one of his free-throws, the score was 68-30 at the end of the game. Coach had said that this win was great for the guy’s moral after the slow season.
