Gladstone, Michigan01/18/2018– The Negaunee Miners High School Boys Basketball team traveled to Gladstone this Thursday night to take on the Braves. The Miners came into this game 4-6 while the Braves were 5-3. Jesse Anderson and Brady Guilbault brought you all of this game’s play-by-play action on Sunny FM.

Gladstone won the tip-off to start the game. Right away the Miners found out that Reece Castor was a key player for the Braves as he played a great offensive first quarter. Drew DuShane had a great box-out during the first quarter for the Miners. At the end of the first, the Miners had played well but not as good as the Braves as they trailed the Braves 14-9. Negaunee had possession to start off the second quarter. The Miners had done a good job at defending against Castor but he was a good shooter to have to fend against. Reece Castor scored the most points in the first two quarters of the game for the Braves with 18 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 assist. Jason Waterman had scored the most for the Miners in the first half with 13 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal. The Miners trailed the Braves at half-time with a score of 30-21.

The second half of the game started off a little slow for the Miners as the Braves scored the first few points. Jakson Sager was the first to score for the Miners in the second half. Gladstone was really good at answering back and they were a really fast team to hit the three pointers so Negaunee really tried to contain those three point shots. Jakson Sager and Luke Mattson were the high lighting scorers of the third quarter. 51-33 was the score at the end of three with the Miners trailing the Braves. The fourth quarter really turned the game right around for the Miners. The Miners battled back with a fast-paced tempo to earn their points and get back in the game. Jacob Ennett and Jason Waterman were all over the scoreboard and managed to bring the score to a six point game. 60-54 was the final score with the Braves taking the win against the Miners.
