Miners Girls High School Basketball team traveled to Manistique for eighth victory

Manistique, Michigan– 01/05/2018– The Miners Girls High School Basketball team traveled to Manistique to take on the Emeralds this Friday night. The Miners came into this game 7-0 while the Emeralds were 0-6. Brady Guilbault and Jesse Anderson brought you all of the LIVE action on Sunny FM.

The tip-off was won by the Miners to start the game. The Negaunee girls had a lot of spark and kept quite a lead over the Emeralds. During the whole first quarter, the Emeralds were only able to score 4 points as the Miners controlled the floor. 17-4 was the score at the end of one with Negaunee leading Manistique. In the second quarter Hannah Voskuhl, of the Miners, really stepped up and scored most of the points. At half time, the Miners lead the Emeralds with a score of 29-9.

The Miners were a little slower paced in the second half of the game. Natalie Bartle, of Negaunee, put forth a lot of effort in the third scoring 9 points towards the end. Lynsee Dempsey, also of the Miners, beat the buzzer to score two at the end of the third to make the score 49-17 with Negaunee in lead over Manistique. In the fourth quarter, the energy of the Miners changed and the game picked up as all five of the starters were ready to keep up their undefeated record. The Miners triumphed in this away game with a final score of 62-22.

They now have a perfect 8-0 record for this season! The top scorers of the game for the Miners were Natalie Bartle with 13 points, Clara Johnson with 12 points, Hannah Voskuhl with 10 points, and MacKenzie Karki also with 10 points. Coach had said that he was proud of the girls for this great season so far and that in order to beat their cross-town rivals, the Marquette Redettes, the girls would have to improve their post-interior defense and ball pressure. He said that Megan Syrjala had a hot-hand and Hannah Voskuhl played really well defensively through out this game. He also said that Hannah and Aili Shiroda were just rebounding magnets and that really helped with the final outcome of the game.
