Houghton, Michigan– 01/02/2018– The Negaunee Miners Boys basketball team traveled to Houghton this Tuesday night to take on the Houghton Gremlins. The Miners came into this game 4-2 while the Gremlins were 2-3. Brady Guilbault gave you all of the in-game action on Sunny.FM.
The first quarter of action was controlled by the Miners. The plays were set up for their advantage and they played with enough muster by the offense to get a 21-8 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, it seemed that the Miners lacked the endurance and stamina they had in the first and their plays. The Gremlins were able to close the gap quite quickly and by the end of the first half of the game, the score was 26-21 with the Miners with a five point lead over the Gremlins. Brad Sirard, Houghton, was the top scorer of the half for the Gremlins with 11 points while Jakob Ennett scored the most points for the Miners (9 points).
The second half of the game really reflected the output of effort in the second quarter for the Miners. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 33-30 as Negaunee kept the lead over Houghton. The Gremlins kept up their strength in the ball-game and played just a little harder than the Miners and at the end of the ball game, the Gremlins took the one point win over the Miners with a score of 44-43. Brad Sirard had the most points for the Gremlins (20 points. Jason Waterman was the leading scorer for the Miners with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals. Coach Waterman had said that in order to improve, the Miners really have to assess
and fix their mistakes and play with more effort in the next game.
