The Negaunee Miners Defeat Ishpeming Hematites 60-46 in Girls Basketball Continuing as 5-0 in the Season.

Negaunee, Michigan  –  December, 20, 2017  –  The girls basketball game between the Negaunee Miners and Ishpeming Hematites was a heavy-weighted match-up with a real display of skill and commitment. Both teams came into this game with no losses: Negaunee 4-0, Ishpeming 5-0. Brady Guilbault and Jesse Anderson brought you all of the in-game action on Sunny.FM 101.9.

The tip was won by the Miners’ player Clara Johnson for a nice start to the game. Allyson Jacobson scored the first two points in the basketball game for Negaunee. The first quarter started off with a lot of energy from both of the teams moving the ball back and forth. Unfortunately, the shots just weren’t making it for the Miners and the Hematites took the lead, staying ahead for the entire first quarter of tonight’s game. 14-7 was the score at the end of the first with Hematites in lead of the Miners. The second quarter started to turn the game around for the Miner girls. Between Clara Johnson and Natalie Bartle scoring the three pointers, the Miners were able to close the gap in the score and take the lead at half time with a score of 25-21.

Half time offered a period for the Miner girls to rest and adjust their play and within the first couple minutes of the third quarter, the Miners scored eight points! The Miners were just unstoppable in the third. The girls took over the game and at the end of the third the score was 46-33 with the Miners leading the Hematites. In the fourth, Ishpeming started to pick up their slack and but our Miners countered that. Clara Johnson dominated the ball and swooshed her free throws to keep the Miners in the zone for victory. 60-46 was the final score with our Miners Girls basketball team taking the win. Madigan Johns was the main powerhouse for the Ishpeming Hematites with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. Clara Johnson carried the Miners to victory with her 24 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal and 3 assists. Both Natalie Bartle (11 points, 12 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists) and Abby Nelson (10 points, 10 rebounds, 1 block) were in the double-double at the end of the game.
