02/12/15 Negaunee, Michigan – The Negaunee Miners Girls Basketball team hosted the Iron Mountain Mountaineers tonight. Carl Leander Johnson, the voice of the Negaunee Miners and Jesse Anderson were there to bring you all the exciting action on Sunny.FM.
The Iron Mountain Mountaineers were first to score tonight and took an early lead 4-0 against the Negaunee Miners. Courtney Finilla scored the first field goal of the game for the Negaunee Miners with a 3 point shot to trail the Mountaineers 6-4. The Negaunee Miners took their first lead of the night against the Iron Mountain Mountaineers, 12-11 with 2 minutes left in the first quarter. The Negaunee Miners maintained the lead to end the first quarter 15-12 against the Iron Mountain Mountaineers on Sunny.FM.
The Iron Mountain Mountaineers scored first to start the second quarter and narrowed the Negaunee Miners lead to 15-14. The Negaunee Miners were quick to answer back with back to back baskets to lead 20-14 with 5 1/2 minutes left in the first half. Adena Anderson scored her fourth 3 point shot of the first half to give the Miners a sizable lead 26-16 with 3 minutes left of play in the second quarter. The Negaunee Miners ended the second quarter leading 32-23 against the Iron Mountain Mountaineers.
The Iron Mountain Mountaineers came into the third quarter fighting and decreased the Negaunee Miners lead to 32-28 early. The Negaunee Miners struggled in the third quarter against the Iron Mountain Mountaineer defense and with 1 minute left in the ball game the score was tied 34-34. The Negaunee Miners were able to end the third with a small lead of 39-37 against the Mountaineers.
The Iron Mountain Mountaineers came out with the first bucket of the fourth quarter and tied the score 39-39. The Negaunee Miners were quick to answer back and regained the lead 41-39. The Iron Mountain Mountaineers took their first lead of the night halfway through the quarter 44-42. The Negaunee Miners took back the lead with just under 2 minutes left in the game 49-48. It was an exciting end to the game with the lead changing hands between both teams, but the Iron Mountain Mountaineers pulled out the win 55-51 against the Negaunee Miners.
The Iron Mountain Mountaineers defeated the Negaunee Miners (55-51) on Sunny.FM.
