West Ishpeming, Michigan January 22nd, 2016 – The Negaunee Miners Girls traveled to West Ishpeming, Michigan tonight to face their cross town rivals the Westwood Patriots. Jesse Anderson and Brady Guilbault were there to bring you all the action from the U.P. Press Box on Sunny.FM.
The Negaunee Miners won the tip and started the game with the early lead 4-0 with one minute played. The Negaunee Miners were striking fast and and efficient and maintained a 10-2 lead with 3 minutes left in the first quarter on Sunny.FM. The Negaunee Miners won the first quarter with a 18-4 lead over the Westwood Patriots.
Negaunee started the second quarter with a basket to give them a 20-4 lead. The Patriots ended a scoring drought with 3 point shot to trail 20-7 with 3 minutes played in the quarter. The Negaunee Miners ended the second quarter with a dominating lead 25-11 over the Patriots on Sunny.FM.
Aleda Johnson opened the second half with a basket and widen the Negaunee Miners lead to 27-11. The Negaunee Miners continued to play good defense and led by 18 points 33-18 with the quarter half played. The Negaunee Miners easily maintained the lead 43-18 to end the third quarter against the Westwood Patriots.
The Negaunee Miners were spot on tonight and could not be stopped by the Westwood Patriots, with each Miner scoring. The Negaunee Miners easily improved their winning record to 8-2 with a win of 62-27 over the Patriots. The player of the game was Courtney Finnila who made all her baskets to score 15 points for the night.
