Marquette, Michigan – November 11, 2018 – Mary Davis joined Todd Pazz on the 8th Day Radio Show to talk about the annual sponsorship by the Marquette Alger Reading Council the Gift of Reading Project.   “Reading is a life-long gift.”  And reading to a child or an elderly person provides value beyond the story, beyond the words.  The bond of words build and maintains our society, providing opportunities and understanding that cannot be had any other way.

The Marquette Alger Reading Council asks the public to donate new books which will be given to families and adults at Christmas time and throughout the year.

The Council  “also distribute new books to youth service agencies, public health and dental centers, nursing homes, including the Veteran’s Center, Harbor House, Beacon House, the Women’s Center and many other locations. New books may be dropped off at the Peter White Library and Snowbound Books in Marquette as well at schools and school libraries in the two-county area.”

Over the years, the project has collected more than 32,000 books. The last day for donations is December 5th. You may also contribute by sending a check to MARC at P.O. Box 1084, Marquette, MI 49855. Please call 226-7030 with any questions about the project.
