Children are naturally curious. Encourage that curiosity with this Japanese Cultural class designed for youth. In this four-week series, children and teens will learn basic Japanese words, how to eat with chopsticks, how to write their name in Japanese calligraphy, how to create beautiful shapes using origami and taste Japanese food. The free class will be taught by Tomoko Inoue from the Great Lakes Center for Youth Development, who is originally from Kiryu, Japan.
The children’s workshop session is open to third through fifth graders and will be held on Wednesdays: January 11, 18, 25, February 1, 2012 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
The teen’s workshop session is open to sixth through twelfth graders and will be held on Wednesdays: March 7, 14, 21, 28, 2012 from 4:30– 6:00 p.m.
Inoue will also teach a free one-day workshop for all ages on Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. (Adult registration for this class is $5.00.) This workshop will offer a fun-filled afternoon of Japanese tradition and art, including origami and Japanese calligraphy.
