A dog sled team taking off from the start of the UP200 in Marquette, MI 2015.

Marquette, MI  –  February 12, 2016  – Earlier today M28 was just reduced to single lanes to make clearing easier, but as of 1:30 PM today, the weather was so bad that the stretch of road has been closed down! The Michigan State Police Winter Travel Advisory claims that the road is icy, snow covered with white-out conditions.

Any volunteers attempting to make it to Marquette for the start of the UP 200 should consider taking the long detour and driving from US-2 up to US-41.

The dogs and their mushers will be leaving at 7:00 PM with the Midnight Run racers following them around 8:30 PM.

If you do brave the weather and make it out to the start of the race tonight, our very own Walt Lindala will be one of the announcers! Luke Noordyk and his band will also be playing tonight. Their gig will be in a warm up station where you can warm your fingers and toes and listen to some great music!
