Marquette, MI – 08/28/2011 – It was standing room only at the Marquette Commons this afternoon as Patrick Rothfuss joined the community for a book signing sponsored by Snowbound Books. Patrick made Marquette a quick stop on his journey home to Wisconsin from Petosky, where he was visiting for another book signing. A shortage of chairs may be proof that a larger than anticipated crowd gathered for the event.
Before actually autographing numerous copies of The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear, Patrick did a lengthy Q&A and a short, but highly entertaining, reading of his latest picture book The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle. This brief reading was a pleasant variation of a typical book signing that brought the entire room to laughter.
The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle appears like a children’s book, but it is not intended for young audiences. Copies of the book were dispersed to everyone in the crowd while Patrick stood at the front and read the story aloud to each and every one of us. Patrick instituted an atmosphere of story-time, instructing everyone to only turn the page when directed. Needless to say it was like being a child in school again, but with a much more entertaining story and “teacher”.
Be sure to check up on Patrick’s blog, and if you haven’t already, I highly recommend picking up a copy of The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear. This well-written series is one that will grip any fantasy lover. I’m sure the third book in the series will not disappoint.
